The trade paperback collection of ONE-STAR SQUADRON is out. DC Comics says: Brought to you by Eisner nominee Mark Russell (The FlintstonesWonder TwinsExit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles) and Eisner winner Steve Lieber (Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen), you’ll want to invest in this one-of-a-kind collection that promises a story filled with heart, heroism, and humor. Collecting One-Star Squadron #1-6.

I loved working on this series. Mark Russell is a one-of-a-kind storyteller, and I was proud to collaborate with him on a story that manages to say honest things about the world while still being entertaining and weird. And Dave Stewart’s color is stunningly good.

The collection is available from your local comic shop, or you can get a signed and sketched copy from my etsy shop.

Been a while!

The last time I updated this site, DC had just announced that I was going to be drawing Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen. And since then, well… I finished it. SPJO has been translated into Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese, made it onto a dozen or so year’s best lists, won the Eisner Awards for Best Humor Comic and Best Limited Series, the Ringo Award for Best Humor Comic, and is nominated for the Harvey Award for Book of the Year. I’m hugely grateful to my collaborators Matt Fraction, Nathan Fairbairn, and Clayton Cowles, my assistant Tom Rogers, all the great editors at DC, especially Jessica Chen, and publicity man Clark Bull, without whom no one would have ever heard of the book.

After wrapping up Jimmy, I drew stories that appeared in a Harley Quinn holiday special, a Superman & Batman team book, and a Tales from The Old Guard Anthology. Also two issues of Teen Titans Academy, some short personal comics that appeared on twitter, and a bunch of covers, all while feeling absolutely certain that I was not getting anything done whatsoever. As I type this I’m wrapping the first issue of a new project at DC which will probably be announced soon.

Let’s see if I can keep this site a little more up to date!

Wizard World Portland

I’ll be a guest this weekend February 19-21 at Wizard World Portland. You can find me at table A9. On Sunday the 21st, I’ll be on a panel:

Top comics artists talk about their careers, their craft, the comics business and whatever else might come up—and may even show you some of their top-secret techniques! Join peerless pencilers Steve Lieber (Superior Foes of Spider-Man; Whiteout), Dean Haspiel (The Fox; Beef With Tomato), Rebekah Isaacs (Ms. Marvel; Angel & Faith) and Simon Fraser (Judge Dredd; Dr. Who). Danny Fingeroth (How to Create Comics from Script to Print) moderates.

Hope to see you there!

THE FIX arrives April 6th, 2016

Cover of The Fix An all-new series from Nick Spencer and Steve Lieber  The Eisner-award nominated team of bestselling writer Nick Spencer (MORNING GLORIES) and artist Steve Lieber (Detective Comics, Whiteout) are in cahoots again for an all-new, ongoing crime series, THE FIX, which will be launching from Image Comics this April.

“After working with Steve on Superior Foes of Spider-Man, and having so much fun there—it’s an absolute thrill getting to work together again here at Image on a book that’s creator-owned, and being able to push the envelope of our humor to new, um, lows,” said Spencer. “The Fix is us at our most demented, and it’s a blast.”

THE FIX is a story of the crooked cops, scheming mobsters, and corrupt politicians that run Los Angeles—and the sex toy that can bring them all down. Oh, and the hero is a drug-sniffing beagle named Pretzels. Bad people do bad things to each other in this frenetic, outrageous, sometimes off-putting new caper that gives nod to classic crime comics like CRIMINAL and 100 Bullets.

Lieber added: “I’m happy to say that The Fix is a truly funny story about truly awful people. Nick Spencer, Ryan Hill, Nic Shaw and I are all working hard together to create an endlessly surprising tale full of shining moments of self-centered garbage humanity.”  THE FIX #1 (Diamond Code FEB160465) will hit comic book stores on Wednesday, April 6th. The final order cutoff deadline for comic book retailers is Monday, March 14th.

Boise Public Library Comic Con this Saturday, 8/29

Another convention! This weekend Saturday, August 29th, I’ll be a guest at the Boise Public Library Comic Con.

The guest list is stellar, particularly for a show this size.I’ll be exhibiting with Sara Ryan (Bad Houses), and there’ll be a whole lot of other comics people from Periscope Studio, too, including Terry Blas, Joelle Jones, Benjamin Dewey, Leila Del Duca, and Lukas Ketner.

I hope to meet some of you there!
